SLSI is of the opinion that Quality of the products can be assured in an effective manner with the use of National Standards as the standards stipulate the optimum requirements. In order to ensure that the standards are used by the industry and trade as a factor of determining the Quality of products, needs for having a suitable monitoring arm within the SLSI was felt necessary.

In view of that, SLSI has established the Quality Assurance Division. This division implements an Import Inspection scheme, where the quality of imported items identified based on factors such as health & safety, is checked prior to releasing them to the market. This assures the consumers are protected from low quality substandard imported products. This scheme also provides protection to local industrialists as it ensures an equal playing field, against dumping of cheap low-quality goods.

SLSI establishes the pre export qualification scheme to facilitate the exporters in the fields such as cinnamon and it is implemented under the voluntary basis.
