Industry increasingly recognizes that, in today’s demanding and competitive markets, good product design and efficient manufacturing must be supported by properly authenticated measurement and testing. Purchasers and consumers are equally concerned that the quality, performance and reliability of goods meet their requirements and are less tolerant of failure to meet the requirements of a quality product. For its economic survival, in particular for the survival of its manufacturing industry, Sri Lanka must adopt attitudes and practices, which lead to products and services that can compete in the international market. This can only be achieved through a well-established national measurement system.

Calibration activities of SLSI fulfil this national obligation by being a part of the national measurement system of Sri Lanka. As a leading ISO 17025: 2017 accredited calibration laboratory, Metrology Division of SLSI, fulfils the calibration needs by providing industrial calibration services traceable to SI units in the fields of force, length, mass, pressure, temperature, torque and volume. It provides calibration and measurement services to industry to disseminate valid measurement practices.
