SLS Mark Product Certification
The Product Certification assures that the product meets relevant/required Standard Specifications and applicable regulatory and statutory compliances.
The Product Certification Schemes are essentially voluntary in nature and gives the third party assurance to the customer/consumer.
Basic Requirements for obtaining SLS mark Product Certification
- The product should conform to the relevant Sri Lanka Standards specifications.
- A satisfactory Quality Management System should be established and implemented. QMS shall be based on ISO 9001 standard requirement or GL-CP-01 guideline requirements issued by SLSI., ISO 9001 certification is mandatory for the foreign manufacturers.
- The manufacturing process should comply with relevant cord of practices if required.
- The applicant should agree permit conditions issued by the SLSI.

Under the Sri Lanka standards Act no 6 of 1984, Sri Lanka standards Institution (SLSI) is empowered to operate the SLS mark Product Certification scheme. Under the consumer protection Act No. 01 of 1979, SLS Mark has been compulsory by Consumer Affairs Authority for 46 products.
Organic Product Certification Scheme is operated based on the requirements of SLS 1324, Requirements for Organic Agriculture Production and Processing. This certification scheme is accredited against ISO/IEC 17065 by Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB)
Technical recommendations are provided based on Sri Lanka Standards to relevant authorities for registration of manufactures.
SLS Mark Product Certification for Local Manufacturer
Submission of Application
The application shall be submitted to the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) in the prescribed form (FM-CP-01 & FM-CP-02) along with application processing fee as given in the fee structure (GL-CP-02A).
Desktop evaluation
Applications and other relevant documents are reviewed and feedback will be given to manufacture.
Pre assessment (on site)
A team of competent auditors conduct the on site assessment to verify the preliminary requirements needed to obtain the SLS mark for the concerned product. Findings observed during the assessment are communicated to the manufacture and manufacturer shall submit the necessary corrective actions if required.
Product testing
- Two sets of samples are drawn from the manufacturing processes as per the guideline established by SLSI.
- First set of samples are drawn during the pre-assessment.
- Subsequent set of samples are drawn later before the final assessment.
- Samples drawn are tested at recognized laboratory either local or foreign.
Final assessment (on site)
A team of competent auditors conduct the onsite comprehensive assessment based on product requirements, Quality Management System requirement and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements for the concerned product. Findings observed during the assessment are communicated to the manufacture and manufacturer shall submit the necessary corrective actions if required.
Approvals for Permit to use SLS Mark
Permit committee, the committee which approve the permit to use the SLS mark, evaluate the audit report and test results before making decision to grant the Permit.
Granting of Permit to use SLS Mark
Permit is granted after signing the agreement by the brand owner and / or manufacturer and making the relevant payments.
Surveillance monitoring
Surveillance audits are carried out bi-annually and samples are drawn from the manufacturing process and / or market to assess the product conformity. Product are tested at recognized laboratory either local or foreign.
SLS Mark Product Certification for Foreign Manufacturer
Submission of Application

Samples are drawn from the manufacturing processes during the onsite assessment by SLSI team as per the guideline established by SLSI. Samples drawn are tested at recognized laboratory either local or foreign. If required samples are drawn through third party agency appointed by SLSI.

The sample (s) shall be drawn by SLSI from the product consignment import to Sri Lanka or third party agency appointed by SLSI to monitor conformance of the product to the relevant Sri Lanka Standard. Onsite assessments are carried-out once in every three years period.
